How to be a High School Phagehunter?

We basically have 2 ways to participate in the Phagehunting independent Research  in the Phagehunter Lab of Dr. Graham Hatfull at the University of Pittsburgh.  One is a volunteer after school program during the school year and the other is our Fellowship Program offered in the summer.  Both require the same application , transcripts, and an e-mail (see application for address).  Once all pieces are received, we will contact you.  If you are already participating in the program as a school year phagehunter and would like to be considered for a summer position, please send an e-mail to debbie to notify her that you would like to be considered for a summer position.Remember to submit your laboratory plan.

School Year Program key features:

  • flexible scheduling (after school)
  • one-on-one mentoring
  • independent research of your own phage
  • ability to learn microbiology and molecular biology techniques
  • openings begin Fall, 2009

Summer Program key features:

  • independent research of your own phage
  • ability to learn microbiology and molecular biology techniques
  • one-on-one mentoring
  • generous stipend - $1600.00 
  • 200 semi-flexible hour time commitment
  • Notebook Meetings
